Home from the Hospital

Notes from yesterday, October 1st
And with that, I am home, listening to the favorites on my iPod. It feels all of a sudden, but it was not. Surgery and the subsequent four day stay in the hospital was a grueling affair. I will talk all about that later. For now, I am just going to listen to Al Green.

After Marissa had gotten me home and settled she left to go get my pain medications (if I haven't referred to her as the best person in this world yet, I am now, and will again). The windows are open, the sun is shining and I am sitting in the comfy chair. This song came on a few minutes ago - Water from an Ancient Well, by Abdullah Ibrahim.

Shortly after the first chords were struck, gratitude flooded my heart and tears flooded my eyes. Don't yet know if the cancer is gone, but I do know I am lucky and for a million different reasons. Just being here in this room, with a breeze blowing and this song playing, I know I am lucky.

Notes from Today, October 2nd.
Yes, horrible news from the world yet again, but the warmth and the love that overwhelmed me yesterday is still there today. And this is with another night filled with lots of pain, 30-minute cat naps and super human expectorating.

I was planning to nap throughout the day, but we went out for a late morning walk on the Bay Trail. This changed the whole day. With a cooling breeze and the warming sun both dancing across my bald head, I began to wake up and to feel more and more alive. We ended up walking for almost a mile, and coming back for a shorter one later in the day.

My doctor had warned me to remain active while in the hospital. I had done my best to be a good ambulator there. I now promise to keep it up until I am back to normal. This is curative, I am sure of it.
